Progress and Goals Empty Progress and Goals

    Post  Paeter August 4th 2010, 12:54 pm

I thought I'd start a topic for us to update each other on our progress and near future goals like we had been doing via e-mail.

As of right now I am working on scene 32 out of 39 in the Special Edition. I've basically got the dialogue leveled out (thanks to the Levelator) and am now adding a few sound effects, deciding where everyone is at in the room (panning) and readjusting overall sound levels. Today is my last workday of the week, so I can't set my bar very high. But by this time next week I'd like to be working on scene 36 or 37 and finish out the core mix by the end of next week.

How are things looking on the mixing front, Tim?

Brandon, have you had a chance to pick out an audition line for that bit part yet?

I don't think Tanja is registered here yet, but I invited her to and I hope to announce auditions for the next "Of The Night" Ep soon!

The main mix is finished and I'm halfway through the music selection process. Hoping to be done before the end of next week and start on test listening either on Friday or the following Monday.

Got your audition line Brandon, so I should be able to post the casting call for Sasquatch next week sometime.

Any forward motion, Tim? Have you set any goals for yourself lately?

    Testing, testing 1 2 3.

Well, I'm finally back in the saddle and looking forward to helping you all move your projects forward!

Can we just start with a roll call so I can make sure everyone is being alerted to these posts? Otherwise, I'll need to contact those who aren't and make sure they are able to subscribe to this forum so we can all stay in the loop together.

Let's see, if memory serves, mixers working on projects right now include:

    Tim
    Pam
    Brandon
    Tanja

Can you all give a shout out, please?

Thanks, Brandon. I responded to your forum private message by the way, and also sent you an e-mail with some particulars I just need a brief response on. Then we're off to the races!

    Post  Tim November 24th 2010, 10:40 pm

Yep, I'm here, too. Sorry, saw this last week, but forgot to post.

My progress so far is trying to get my audio program to run on my hand-me-down Vista running laptop. After my hard drive crash from my old laptop and loosing all of my work [lesson learned-all files now stored on an external Hard Drive], I am having trouble with the utter piece of trash that is Vista. Vista is slow and non compliant most of the time, causing my program to crash and my system to freeze up. I am trying to see if I can either put more memory in the laptop and either upgrading or down grading my system.

I know. Not the most forward moving progress report. Did this happen to the guy who had this before me? I am trying to make sure that this isn't the bounce around project.

    So, thats it.

On the bright side, Everyone should now be encouraged that no matter how slow there progress is-its not as bad as where I'm at.

I'm sorry it took so long for me to subscribe, school's been swamping me with all sorts of busy-work and I haven't had time for much lately. Yes, LightningBolt is my user name, and it's Tanja. I'm super excited about this new "Of the Night" episode, some nice development going on. I love the special edition of Spirit Blade by the way, Paeter, you kick but! Keep up the awesome work! We want more Pilgrim's Progress and the third part after Dark Ritual!

Thanks, Tanja! Those are both coming up next! I'm currently outlining for SB3 and hope to begin fleshing out scenes starting this week, followed by actual writing of the script in a few more weeks or after Christmas.

Doing some marketing stuff and cleaning house a bit, but I'm looking forward to getting back into the thick of creative work very soon!

Paeter can you check out the jamendo.com website? I noticed that you could specify a search for music that you can modify. Does that mean I can use it?

Can you give a more specific URL of something to check out? Going to the site, I got as far as http://www.jamendo.com/en/creativecommons

where they group songs into different CC Licenses (not all are the same and each includes different permissions/limitations)

So what you'll need to do with a track you're interested in is see exactly what kind of CC License it has and keep track of that information so that the track can be used within legal boundaries and credited appropriately.

If you haven't yet, I'd recommend getting familiar with the basic types of CC licenses at http://creativecommons.org/about/licenses/

Then be sure you know what kind of CC license your track in question has. If the site makes it too hard to figure out, then just avoid using it. Too risky.

    Hope that's helpful!

    Okay use this link
    http://www.jamendo.com/en/creativecommons

If you look on the right there is a checkbox that says
"find content I can modify, adapt or build upon."
And then the search box is above and the search button is below.

so when I do that and search "soundtrack" I find an album like this
    http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/67563

    Look at the license info...

    Give credit to the artist
Don't use this album for commercial purposes
Distribute all derivative works under the same license

    Is that ok?

Oh... and then when I click the icon next to the distribute I get this page.

    Post  Paeter December 7th 2010, 3:01 pm

Hope everyone's doing well! Pam, have you posted here yet?

My goals are changing shape for awhile, since I'm back in the writing phase for the first time in two years, and writing from scratch for the first time in four. ("Pilgrim" is based on existing work and so doesn't take quite as much effort to write.)

The basic outline for SB3 is complete and this week I hope to begin fleshing out some scenes and making sure that the plot is logical. I'd love to start writing dialogue before Christmas, but I have family coming in from out of town starting this weekend, so I don't want to set myself up for failure.

Tanja and Brandon, I forget, have your deadlines passed for actors to have their lines in to you? Would either of you like me to send a reminder to cast members to help "nudge" them forward?

Tim, I hope you're doing well and having fewer technical difficulties! Smile

That last link is the one you want to look for each time. It takes you directly to the CC page where the permissions are stated clearly and consistantly, rather than in the individual artist's or webpage's words.

And yeah, you're good to go. With that license you can cut, paste or manipulate this file however you want, which is vital for use as score in audio drama. (Otherwise you'd have to play the whole song with no other sounds at the same time! Not very useful for scoring.)

BTW, I think we've used that artist before at the SBUA. Good stuff!

    Post  Paeter January 4th 2011, 5:11 pm

Whew! Back in the groove again. Or trying to be. This is the first week since our second child was born (late October) that my wife and I have both gone back to our normal work routines. Or tried to.

I've spent yesterday and today scrambling to get some things done while my wife works upstairs and two boys are both demanding my attention. Not enough hours in the day for both of us to work "kid-free", so I'm learning to adjust my routine and cope with frustration all over again.

I'm hoping that our youngest will learn to sleep through the night soon so that I can have an hour or two more to catch up each night. Yikes!

So I'm in a period of adjustment and my goal for this week is to reduce the amount of clutter that's been building up on my desk and catch up on a pile of "to dos" from the time taken often during the holidays.

    How about you guys?
