The Pilgrim's Progress Empty The Pilgrim's Progress

    Post  jorowi March 14th 2019, 8:06 am

New animated feature coming out starring John Rhys-Davies (Gimli in LoTR & Sallah in RotLA) as Evangelist.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am on the promotional team. I'll get to review it early and give away tickets (US residents only) to see it in theaters.

Paeter: I'm happy to provide a review for its release on 4/18 if you don't have anything else on your review calendar.

I do have something to review that week, but would welcome the additional content! Appreciate you mentioning you're on the promotional team and that would be good to mention in a review as well. Thanks!

I'm pretty curious! Looks like it at least uses the same themes, but is clearly re-written, which is very wise. I also like some of the subtle fantasy vibes added to it, as that's something I had planned to do a TON of in my now cancelled audio version.

Having trouble with the animation quality (and as a result character investment). For a budget, direct to video title, it could be a decent one-time viewing. But I think it will likely fall very short in comparison to theatrical animated films.

I look forward to your review, John!

Ditto. I expected more for a theatrical release.

Ah, they're finally going through with it, then? I've seen this project asking for funding for, like, a year now. First there was a Kickstarter or somesuch, and then I kept getting emails insisting that believers in China needed this movie, so I should help fund it. Not sure if that was specifically targeting me or just a coincidence. I'm highly doubt it will release theatrically here, though the animation quality is on par with some of the films that get released here (both domestic and foreign).

I didn't realize they had a name actor involved. I wonder if the story will conclude with Christian reaching the Celestial City, or if they'll also tell Christiana's story. My guess is that they'll tease a sequel with Christiana at the end, or they'll just have Christian's family show up in the Celestial City when he gets there. With that devil-looking dude in the trailer taunting him about his family, it would be weird to leave their fate unexplored.

My review is up. You can read/listen here:

If you're in the US, feel free to enter the giveaway. If you're not in the US or you're not interested in the giveaway, I'd appreciate it if you could share this.

I've booked the executive producer of the movie for an interview and his booking agent has asked me if I want to interview other people she represents.

This looks like it's turned into a great opportunity to grow my podcast.

Paeter: I'm planning to re-record the review for the CGC podcast. Do you have a slot the weekend before Easter?

Thank you so much! I've got room on either the April 12th Ep or the April 19th ep, so whichever one you mean by that, yep! How long will the segment be?

The 12th. I meant to say "review" not "interview". It shouldn't be more than 5 minutes.

Okay, makes more sense. Sounds great! Thank you!
