I cannot believe this is getting a sequel!

I'm actually not that surprised. It's 80s nostalgia time. Everything old is coming back. And filmmakers are starting to understand that many fans of old properties want in-canon continuations of their favourite stories, rather than reboots.

    THIS, "Terminator: Dark Fate"! THIS!

As for Top Gun Maverick, I'd heard a rumor awhile back, but saw the trailer this morning with Holly, who is more a fan than I am. (Those jets need ray guns or something to interest me.)

I'm curious to see what they do and hope that Val Kilmer will be back, even though his career has not kept the staying power of some other 80's stars. That would help it feel like a sequel that really respects and builds on the original, rather than just an exploitative Tom Cruise vehicle movie.

Since they're sequeling my favorite 80s movies, I have high hopes for the upcoming sequel to The Last Starfighter. The article includes links to Twitter with concept art.

A follow-up: they are using practical effects and Tom Cruise had the actors go through flight training.

Wow, crazy! Was this revealed at ComiCon or had you heard about this already?

For the half-cent it's worth, this statement gets the "Paeter Frandsen" seal of approval!

Wow. The actors actually went up in planes. My "respect for Tom Cruise" quotient just went up a little.

I might have to dig out a copy of Top gun and watch it. I saw it on VHS many years ago but don't remember much except planes, a motorbike, and the Danger Zone song. I'll agree with Paeter's desire for more ray guns, though Smile

In another 32 years they'll add rayguns for Top Gun 3: Geriatric Goose

I know, Goose is dead. Maybe they could clone him from some DNA they found.
