Ha! I just bought Merchant of Venus as well, but I have not had a chance to play yet. What do you think of it?

I'm still in the middle of a solo game of the classic version, based on a variant on BGG. I haven't been able to play for very long, just nibbling at a few turns now and then when I have time. But so far I'm liking it!
I'm getting a sense of the strategy, which in the early game seems to be about navigation, when to upgrade your ship and how to upgrade it in order to best make your way around the cluster. Things are getting more interesting as new cultures are discovered and markets become available, and I'm beginning to feel the satisfaction of turning a profit. (Sigh. Another wish-fulfillment game for Paeter.) ;-)
I have a sneaking suspicion that in the long-run I will enjoy the Fantasy Flight version that comes with the game even more. But for now I'm enjoying learning the classic game and want to become very familiar with it before moving on to the new FFG rules.
