    Anybody diggin' on boardgames? I just spent the weekend out of town with a buddy playing Descent.

    I've also recently become a fan of playing DC Heroclix and have been devising a way to play it without endlessly collecting booster packs and as a pseudo rpg instead of a competitive boardgame.

    Also dig Arkham Horror, Betrayal at House On The Hill, Doom and Atomic Earth.

    My favorite boardgame at the moment is "The Settler's of Catan" with "The Fishermen of Catan" Expansion

    The game is just pure genius...

    my second favorite boardgame is "Age of Mythologies" (based of the computer game)

    a great site to check out stuff relating to boardgames is "boardgamegeeks.com"

    A fantastic site. Especially if you have an old board game that isn't supported anymore. You're likely to find some great fan-made creations/expansions to give it new life. Heroquest, one of my former favorites, has a bunch of stuff there you can add to the game.

    That reminds me of when I bought this comic book trivia game and never had anyone to play it with, so like a huge nerd I would just sit down with the cards and quiz myself.

    Hehe...I was kinda kidding because I knew that wasn't the kind of board game Paeter was talking about. Smile But Clue is probably my favorite board game.

    Has anybody tried Clue: secrets and spies

    Yes, my wife got me this one for Christmas. Whenever a new Clue game comes out I usually pick it up. I "almost collect" Clue games. I don't have the Master Detective one, but I think I have most of the others. I said "almost collect" because I haven't really gone hardcore about it and made sure I have all the editions, etc. But I like seeing the different variations that put on it. Secrets and Spies is quite different than a normal Clue game; most are fairly similar.

    Speaking of Clue has anyone else played "Scotland Yard"?
    I think that's my third favorite boardgame. The game is literally pure deduction... Totally beats clue imho...

    Yes! First time I played it as the bad guy I completely outclassed everyone and just popped back up at the end of the game exactly where I started... good times!

    Anyone ever play Fireball Island with the optional rules created by the Knights Of The Dinner Table magazine using Clue pieces? Yeah... it rocks.

    Yeah, Atomic Earth rocks, but I'm biased. cheers

    Our gaming group fall-backs are Munchkin, Zombies!!!, and Last Night on Earth. Munchkin is a card game that simulates a dungeon crawl composed purely of in-jokes. Various flavors are Star Munchkin, Munchkin Bites (gothic horror), Munchkin Impossible, Munchkin-thulhu, and Munchkin Fu. There's tons of others.

    Zombies!!! is a tile-laying strategy game with zombie flavor.

    Last Night on Earth is a survival horror simulator with competitive and cooperative variations.

    Been meaning to ask, Winston. I'm taking Atomic Earth with me when we visit Holly's family next week. Do you have an age recommendation for the game?

    I'm also still slowly compiling notes for a a co-op/solo game play mode.

    If you can do math, you can play the basic game. My kids are six and nine; they have a lot of fun with the monsters, and we don't use the TAQ cards at all. In playtesting, the breaking point seems to be about 12 when they start to understand the strategic game.

    I'll have you my draft of single/co-op rules before next Thursday. You can test them for me!! Idea

    Has anyone here ever made their own Board Games?
    I've made several. My favorite would probably be a basic, turn-based strategy combat game where you can buy soldiers, tanks, planes and turrets, but by purchasing a technical upgrade (color-coded bead) to attach to it, you could totally change the function of that unit, giving it a lot of variety.

    Perhaps I was being too subtle earlier. bounce
    I am the creator and publisher of the Atomic Earth board game.

    http://criticalpressmedia.com/publications/atomic-earth

    Wanted: young skinny, wiry fellows not over eighteen; must be expert riders willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred.

    Challenger City is in desperate need of resources. You are a Wilderness Scout. Your job: hunt down the giant Atomic Monsters that prowl the primordial jungle, incite them to war with each other, gather the shards of quantum energy from their titanic battles. And make it back alive. The risks are insurmountable, the prize is immeasurable. Five out of six Scouts never return home.

    Atomic Earth is a tile-laying board game for children and adults with basic reading and math skillz. It’s got shards of atomic energy. It’s got high tech adventure. It’s got giant radioactive monsters! What more is there?

    In the survival kit:

    * 36 Hexagon Map Tiles
    * 48 Atomic Monster cards
    * 60 TAQ Device cards
    * 48 Atomic Shards in various elements
    * pawns, dice, rules, and all the other stuff you might need!

    But how well does it play? Download the instructions and check it out! Get yours today, but don’t wait too long; Challenger City is counting on you!

    The complete game is only $40, no fooling around with change or taxes or shipping costs. Your survival kit goes out the very first business day after you place an order. What are you waiting for? The survival of the human race is at stake!!!

    Atomic Earth is a DTP (Desk-Top-Published) game, and is trademarked ™️ and copyrighted ©️ by Critical Press Media 2009.

    And again I'll put my two cents in and say that this is a cool game. In fact I brought it on vacation with me. It's one of the few "bridge" games I have. By that I mean, "normal" people (or kids) might play this game before Arkham Horror, Zombies or Descent, and yet it has plenty of sci-fi geek factor. Rules are simple yet have plenty of strategic potential, and the game is pretty easy to modify for your tastes as well.

    Great job, Winston!
