The New Mutants Trailer

So...I was just on YouTube and watched the New Mutants trailer. I have so many questions, but it's probably just a better idea to watch it yourself. I'm so confused.....just....



I'm not sure I like the idea of an X-Men horror movie. They keep changing the focus and charm of the original comics, and trade them for these dark, R-rated and gritty stories where most of the superhero appeal is completely ignored. I'm really not sure what to think about this, and I'll probably not even be allowed by my parents to go see it in a theatre....I'm not even sure I want to. I love horror, but X-Men....

This could just be a Friday the 13th cut to make it seem scary. April 13th, 2018 is on a Friday. Today is Friday the 13th. It's listed on IMDB as Sci-Fi, Action so I think this is just a promotional stunt.

Personally, I'm greatly intrigued to see how it turns out. I like it when studios attempt something different with a franchise, and I like how diverse the X-Men-related films have been in tone between the main saga, Deadpool, and Logan.

As a fan of genre mash-ups, I'm very intrigued.

Also, I'm excited to see Wolfsbane brought to the movie universe. She was one of my favorite characters back when I was reading and watching a lot of X-Men, though I wasn't always happy with the types of stories she was put in. I hope she has a Scottish accent.

Hmmm…this could work or fail miserably. FOX Studios either succeeds or fails spectacularly.

Not sure if I'll watch it either way. But I will say that I like comics book movies and shows to experiment with different tones. Although it may not have been as obvious in the early years, comics have almost always experimented with multiple tones depending on the series. As I've expressed, I have my own tonal preferences. But I think there should be room for superhero stories that are comedic, serious, suspenseful and even horrific.

That said, I can understand fans having a particular take on a property that defined it for them, and being disappointed when that isn't the take used as inspiration for the latest TV/Movie incarnation of the character. I've certainly been there many times.
