So you're running four days in a row, and then biking the next day.

    You must be a superhero.

I used to run a lot. When I was running, 5K or 10K a day was a breeze (especially if I ran slowly). Adding a 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles) in there? Nope.

I never got the running bug. I used to run to stay in shape. A 3-5 mile run every other day was enough to keep the weight off. After my feet, ankles, and knees started hurting all the time I stopped. Now I'm turning into a blob.

That's really kinda funny. I used to be a blob and my feet and ankles and abdomen hurt all the time. Now that I'm running 5K every day with longer weekends, the weight has fallen off and things don't hurt any more.....

I did my first half-marathon at the beginning of October and I'm in the books for a Disney half at the World this February.

Hmmm…maybe I need better shoes? Any recommendations for under $50?

For running shoes your best bet is to go to a sports or running store and get tested to see which shoes are best for your feet most if not all place should do the test for free. Then you can start looking for the right shoes (and left ones too of course) for your feet and wallet

Dude, you guys are all inspiring me! I just started adding a short "placeholder" run around my block each night that I hope to develop into something longer and more involved gradually over time. Thanks for helping light a fire under me!

I didn't see a difference in my running shoes until I started doing "real" events.

There is a difference. More expensive shoes last longer and support the feet better, but until I stopped pounding the heck out of the pavement and learned some technique I didn't even notice a change.

My advice is to find a comfortable pair of shoes and invest in a good pair of cross-training insoles. I swear by the Spenco green cross-trainers that Foot Locker sells.
