Re: The Orville- Series Trailer
I haven't seen the Discovery trailer yet, but Orville looks pretty good.
The name helps, though. In my freshman year of high school, my buddy Brett and I were relegated to some desks on the side of the room facing the class instead of the teacher, and there was an empty seat between us. So... we may have made up an imaginary class mate who sat in that chair and said mean things about the teacher and classmates and generally got us in trouble. His name was Orville.

I'm keen to see this as well. (assuming I have access to it. Given it's a FOX show, that probably means it'll be exclusive to Foxtel in Australia, so I may have to wait for BluRays.
Looks pretty funny though. The kind of respoectful mocking that can only come from a genuine love of the original source material.

I'm sold. Wonder when I'll get a chance to see it, though.

Yeah, I felt a bit the same way. My guess is only a few Trek fans would be offended at how it picks at Trek Tropes (oooh, that rolls off the tongue!) and most will likely appreciate the good- natured deconstruction. In fact, for THOSE folks, a really great season of nerd-life may be coming, with TWO shows that scratch different parts of their space-faring itch!

That's exactly how I feel. Discovery will give me the grounded serious Trek I'm wanting, and Orville will be a geeky comedy I can laugh with.
Incidentally, the creator of Orville, Seth McFarlane, is on record as being a huge Trek fan.

That doesn't surprise me at all. He's poking holes in Trek, but I feel like he's doing it will love and good-natured humor, not jaded cutting.
