Lots of directions you could go. I'd treat it the same as a story about a normal person with a criminal lifestyle. Why do they do what they do? Could they let go of it after coming to the point of belief? Would anyone believe they had changed?
All kinds of potential for great stories there!

Another thing I thought of was the super hero doesn't believe a person like him can be forgiven so he sets out to prove he hasn't changed. So now the Super Villian is the protagonist and the Super Hero is the antangonist. Which proves all are evil and needs a Savior.
