Ideas For Podcast? Empty Ideas For Podcast?

    Post  Paeter April 8th 2012, 10:27 pm

As I'm thinking of some new ideas for the podcast I'd love to get your input! What wouldn't you miss if it was never part of the show again? What should I absolutely not remove from the show?

I'd also like to get any suggestions for new show segments, thematic changes, or anything else! Even if you don't listen to the show regularly (or at all), I'd love to hear ideas for content that might interest you enough to try the show out more often.

Your ideas don't have to be well thought out. Feel free to just brainstorm here. Who knows? Your input might lead to something that draws tons of new listeners and defines the show for years to come!

I may or may not comment on your thoughts, but don't weigh my silence as leaning one way or the other. I'd love for this thread to just be about throwing ideas out on the table rather than hashing out pros/cons and pragmatic details.

So have fun brainstorming and thanks for your input, everybody!

    -Paeter

Very Happy Something that might be fun is top ten lists. Top ten sic/fi movies, top ten alien invation flicks, top comic book series and so on. If you review a movie with robots then maybe you could do your top 10 (or 5) robot movies. People could call in with their lists to play on the Podcast.

Not that this has to be said or anything, but don't even think about dropping the "In Search of the Truth" segment. We (okay, perhaps just I)will find you, tie you to your chair, and force you to enlighten us spiritually with your insights. Smile Or just beg/whine/annoy the blazes out of you till you bring it back.

    Paeter,

I heard this episode of The Audacity to Podcast a few days ago and thought of your asking for suggestions. You might want to check it out.

I agree. Key thing to that is having someone with good chemistry with Paeter so they can easily bounce ideas off each other, joke around, and have an interesting conversation.

I don't know -- co-hosts are good (I had to say that by contract or I would get ousted by my co-hosts or they will string me up by my heels and force me to watch The Death of the Incredible Hulk over and over) but a co-host here might upset what makes Spirit Blade special. i like that other voices appear in the podcast, through reviews and the like, and maybe having more segments with other people, even regular segments with other people, would give some variety, but the voice of the show is Paeter, to me.

So i guess that's what my two-cents would be -- regular segments, r more regular segments, by other people, but not necessarily a co-host.

Hey, Paeter! I think you have your first volunteer for a new segment! Smile

Seriously, though, I think this is a good idea, too. Paeter's really be trying to encourage people to contribute more, and I agree that that brings some great stuff to the show. I always enjoy the movie review from the Hawai'i guy (sorry, dude...can't remember your name right off).

I keep wanting to contribute more. But just never carve out the time. I guess I'm a lamer...just not dedicated enough. Sad

Actually, when I started listening and realized he used outside reviewers sometimes, I've been thinking about if there was anything I could contribute. I think that's cool -- and it's a BIG reason why we have an open invitation to listeners to send us recordings to my podcast.

I think it'd be great to have you contribute something Ben. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm at least somewhat of a PC gamer, so I've thought of having a regular segment on games. The main problem is that I don't game enough to make it *that* regular. So my comments would be somewhat old...never cutting edge stuff. And I guess I figure that a fellow gamer would probably have already read a review or maybe even played the game by the time they heard my segment.

The OnLive review I did was more of gaming platform review or a technology review so I saw that as a little different.

What do y'all think? Would anyone be interested in hearing about a game that came out two years ago?

Mainly what I have to offer would be film reviews and comic reviews.

As for old gamer stuff, well, I did like the two part review of that game subscription service. But I'm not a gamer -- I use my PS2 to play Atari 2600 games. And Shadow of the Colossus. I LOVE that game.

Bring out the film and comic reviews!

LOL...Atari 2600 games. Man, the memories! I could play so many games unlimited....where the difficulty didn't get any harder. I have a friend who played Asteroids so long that his TV blew up! Smile

My Dad used to play late at night when my baby brother couldn't sleep unless he was being held. So Dad would hold my brother and play Asteroids. And one morning I got up and my Dad was so proud because he rolled the score!

Since you guys brought it up. I'll go ahead and refresh the invitation for submitted content. I LOVE to use it!

Regarding old game reviews and not playing new games often to review them:

I've been considering making a special intro bumper for "retro reviews", which I would use for Ken's reviews ("Hawaii guy") and others that may be a little dated or obscure. So don't let the age of a game stop you. In fact, reviews for MUCH older games would be a GREAT addition to the show. (Care to talk about those Atari games, Ben?) The internet and recent consoles have made retro gaming "cool", so I think that's a slot that people would love. Young gamers would be introduced to new games they can hunt down, and veteran gamers will either enjoy getting nostalgic or have other strong opinions cemented in their brains that will make an alternative perspective interesting.

Whiteboy, another possibility would be to do a segment on gaming that doesn't focus on reviews, but your opinions related to aspects of the hobby in general.
(What makes a great BLANK type of game? What positive and negative changes have come with the advancement of technology? What are the signs that gaming is becoming too important in your life?) There are probably quite a few non-review topics!

Honestly, I think some people might really dig it! Or at least a "top five INSERT GENRE games for the Atari 2600".

And feel free to bounce any ideas you like, either here or via e-mail. I'd love to hear them!

    A few things I'd suggest.

    1. After you're done with one of the Searching for Truth series, maybe a "Seeker of Truth" where it's spent sharing testimonies of not only yourself but anyone that wants to share it. Despite being a bit cliche I think it's an important part of your maturity as a Christian to be effectively be able to share your faith.

    2. Not regarding the podcast, but on your blog the auto-launching of the trailers makes it annoying for me to go on the blog.

    3. Book reviews of all kinds?

All the trailers on the blog have auto-play turned off. Can I ask what browser you're using? Anyone else experiencing this?

Well, I seem to remember someone else having a similar issue awhile back, so I removed the players and replaced them with download links. Not ideal, but better than annoying Chrome users. Thanks for the heads up!

And just to clarify, "annoying" is the verb in that sentence. Not an adjective.
Just realized that could potentially be taken the wrong way.

I have an idea . . . stop checking my flipping DNA every time I listen to the podcast! What do you need it for? Are you making clones? Nephilim? Are you trying to steal my identity?

Don't get me wrong . . . the podcast is good . . . but maybe not so good that I'm willing to submit a DNA sample each and every time I listen. Maybe it's good enough for me to post my Soc. Security number or something . . . but NOT to give up my DNA rights!

    Voice recognition? Yes!
    Thumb-print ID? of course!
    Retina scan? Absolutely!

Stay the DRAK away from my FRELLING DNA Spirit Blade!

Am I right? Anyone else? Hello? Helloooooo?
