I find it impressive that one of the earliest examples of sci-fi cinema is also one of the essential works of sci-fi cinema.

If you are a sci-fi fan, and if you are interested in creating sci-fi or understanding the roots of sci-fi in visual media, this movie is a must see.

I'm working on a 'retro-review' for Paeter, but I want to include the historical significance of the film to the sci-fi subculture, so its taking me a little while. I want to watch my copy of the complete film w/commentary track to complete my research, but its hard finding a good 3-hour block to do so right now. Hopefully soon.

Holy freaking Summer of Free!! Awesome!! Just started watching a little and I can already appreciate the restorative work they've done compared the the clip quality I'm used to seeing from this film. And the music sounds great! Thanks for the link!

Bad news, it's been taken off due to copyright stuff.

I was afraid of that. Usually the stuff at Open Culture is prety well vetted, but I was surprised when the most recent (and complete) restoration was available online for free. Sigh. Well, I believe it is still available on Netflix...
