Anyone watch this? I considered watching to review it, but I'm not an X-Files fan and I'm pretty confident I would only add another "it was okay" opinion to the multiple reviews out there apparently already saying as much.

I certainly plan on it. I was a really big XFiles fan, and the idea of bringing them back (in a controlled setting) is awesome.

Never watched it in the 90s but my wife got me into it and have watched a lot on DVD.

I'll be keen to see what the show can do in a modern TV environment, although as usual not sure when I will get an oppotunity to see it.

As one of the earliest shows to do ongoing plot arcs, it has a great opportunity now to do a concentrated 13 episode arc in the day when that is common.

I thought it was a six-episode arc. That's about 3 hours of actual show time, which is a long movie. I think that is good because they'll be forced into focus rather than rambling.

From what I have heard only the first and last eps are part of a connected story and all eps in between are stand alone. Which seems insane in today's TV world. Can anyone confirm this? Anyone watching it yet?

    bounce bounce bounce
X-Files is back! The real X-Files!
I loved X-Files back in the day, though I thought they strayed from the core when Duchovny left the show.
The first episode dropped, and I think it's been successfully modernized.

Mulder narrates the show as if it is a modern documentary. It shows the stylistic influence of modern documentary filmmaking, and concentrates on evoking a gut-level response rather than informative persuasion. It's a good look that significantly changes the pacing and presentation of a show that is as different from modern tv as are shows from the 60s. The short-attention-span millenials would not have sat still for the mystery to develop the way the series did. This presentation is far more immediate and focused on rapid pay-offs.

The focus of the conspiracy has shifted from aliens using humans as pawns to humans using alien tech. It's a good direction for the show.

As to the story format, it looks like it will be preserving the format of the series. Mulder and Scully work on a problem which ties into the larger story. X-Files pioneered this kind of storytelling.

    Episode 2 drops tonight.
    I'm super-stoked!

Watched episode 1... forgot to wear my tinfoil hat. Rolling Eyes
Still, I'm trying not to judge the whole thing yet.

X-Files Reboot Premiere Empty Enjoying the Return of X-Files

    Post  Battlemech37 February 11th 2016, 7:49 pm

Yeah, X-Files was pretty big part of the Generation X era (although the Gen Xers are still out there!). I liked the show back then, and was pretty excited for the return. I have really been enjoying the show so far. Yeah, it's got a lot of conspiracy and creepy stuff in it. But I found the first episode (of the return) especially compelling. X-Files has always been about searching out the truth and not trusting "the man" - and it's interesting to see how the characters deal with this new world that we're in.

So it ended up coming out on Channel 10 here in Australia. Have seen the first three but missed episode 4 as I was away at a Bush Retreat with no TV for my wedding anniversary. Will catch-up on Ch 10 streaming.

Been enjoying it so far. They've definitely kept the feeling and format of the original series. I'd really say it's just 'another season' of the show, admittedly a short one.I was surprised they didn't do more modern arc-centric thing, but I guess nostalgia won in the end.

    Anyway, good fun.

Does it make you hungry for more, or was it just good but not very compelling?

It's compelling. Just in a different way.

One of the fun things about X Files is that it can be so varied. Sometimes series, sometimes comedic. Sometimes Science fiction, other times fantasy. In this way, you get a wide variety of experiences.

So, not starving, but certainly hungry.
