Christmas Geek Movies Empty Christmas Geek Movies

    Post  Paeter December 6th 2013, 11:27 am

I think we might have done this last year or previous to that, but I'm interested in getting suggestions for "christmas movies" I could play during my upcoming bake-a-thon that have strong geek appeal. By "christmas movie" I only require that there be evidence of christmas happening somewhere in the movie. Movies already on my list include:

    Batman Returns
    Iron Man 3
Prometheus (remember that little Christmas tree they set up before the aliens started killing everybody?)
Hellboy 2 (The prologue scene takes place around Christmas I think)
and The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe

Of course you could include about every Harry Potter movie, too.

    Any other suggestions?

It's not a movie but on Lost a character looks at a calendar and says "Oh I didn't realize Christmas was almost here" or something like that

Paeter, we're currently doing a blog series on this AND we'll be doing an episode about this as well!

Here's the blog series so far:

    http://strangersandaliens.com/category/christmas-2/strange-christmas-movies/

It started as a blog post last year -- http://strangersandaliens.com/2012/12/unusual-sci-fifantasy-christmas-movies/ -- but we're expanding it into a daily (until the 24th) series this month!

Our list so far is similar to yours:

    Prometheus
    Jaws the Revenge
    Gremlins
    Iron Man 3
    Batman Returns
    Star Trek Generations

And tomorrow is The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Edward Scissorhands will be on the list.

Coming up we've got Toy Story, Harry Potter, Hellboy 2 (yes, the opening scene is Christmas Eve, 1955), two Terry Gilliam movies, and more! (Sorry, I don't want to give it all away!)

Some connections are a little tenuous. One will be a straight up cheat. And there's two that I'm still trying to decide if I dare go there . . .

Gremlins, that's right! May have to see if I can track down a cheap DVD of that in time. (Granny going out the window made me nearly pee myself as a kid.) Ashamed I didn't mention "Scrooged", either. Thanks for the link!

I love the old The Grinch Who Stole Christmas movie. It is in a fantasy world and has a monster for a character. How much more geek appeal do you need? cyclops

    Die Hard.

That is hands down one of my favorite movies of all time and I can make an argument for it being a fit in any genre.
    Action- Speaks for itself
    Mystery- Speaks for itself
Romantic-Comedy- Dad flys across the country to spend Christmas with his family and ends up not being able to see them after whacky hyjinks with him cracking wise the entire time
Sci-fi/fantasty- He jumps off the top of the building tied to a hose, and doesn't die. Also, there's a zombie at the end of the film.
Western- Yippie ki yay, and so forth.
Christmas movie- It's set during Christmas. "Ho ho ho, now I have a machine gun."
