Your "Desert Island" Entertainment Empty Your "Desert Island" Entertainment

    Post  Paeter February 14th 2017, 9:29 am

Okay, de-cluttering our house to prep it for sale has involved some streamlining. I'm having to put into storage some of the things I would normally have easy access to, and that got me thinking about the whole "desert island scenario".

So what are your "Desert Island" entertainment items in each category? Let's assume you have the tech to operate items as they would normally(including online play), and hardware is a freebie but software is not. (So your PC, blu-ray player, TV and power sources are free, but you choose only one game, movie, etc.)

    Categories are:

video game, movie, tv series, fiction book (series acceptable), music album, comic series, PnP RPG and board/card game. Plus one bonus category to cover something I might have missed. You can have up to one thing from each category, but don't need to choose one for each.

    I'm going with:

    Neverwinter Nights (Video Game)

    Batman V Superman (Movie)

    Farscape (TV Series)

    Night Angel Trilogy (Fiction Book)

Steve Green, "Somewhere Between" (music album)

    JSA, Geoff Johns (Comic Series)

DC Heroes RPG, Mayfair Games (PnP RPG)

    HeroQuest (Board/Card Game)

World of Tanks on PC. *(video game)
    Return of the Jedi???+(movie)
    Firefly(tv series)
Master and Commander series #(fiction book)
Drawing Black Lines -Project 86(music album)
    Marvel 1602(comic series)
Robotech(pnp RPG)-finally everyone would have to play it with me
    Warhammer(board/card game)

*started playing Star Wars the Old Republic (online) and it might overtake, but WoT has been years of great game play, so I know it has staying power.
+ Right now, that's the one I'd go to because I know (like WoT above) that it has stay power, but if I got to choose a movie to see right now it would be Rogue One. -time will tell if it holds up.
    # you went with a series... so I go with a series. True you went with a trilogy and I went with 20 books, but that's your loss.

    Okay. Let's see.

Minecraft (Video Game) [Had to go with Minecraft for its sheer infinite playability and opportunity for creative expression]

Man of Steel (Movie) [My all-time fave]

Star Trek Deep Space Nine (TV Series) [Hard pick. Many other contenders like Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica etc, but DS9 wins with 7 full seasons]

The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson (Fiction Book) [Do I get all projected 10 books in the series? I should at least get book 3 which releases late this year]

For Those Who Wait by Fireflight (music album) [or maybe something by Kutless or Skillet. Don't listen to as much music as I used to]

The death & resurrection of Superman arc (Comic Series) [Actually pretty new to comics, but this is what I'm currently reading. Just finished Death of Superman.]

Never played a PnP RPG so no idea. (PnP RPG)

Not sure what it's called but there's a game where you each get a pad of whiteboards. It's basically a drawing version of the kids game "Chinese Whispers" Always makes me laugh (Board/Card Game)

    and my wildcard category:

Scriver (Writing Software) [So I can keep writing books, although I'd need an internet connection to publish them. I wonder if the monkeys on the island like reading?]

Video Game: WWF No Mercy (N64)

    Movie: UHF

    TV Series: Seinfeld

Fiction Book: Probably something I haven't read yet. I don't re-read fiction books hardly ever.

Music album: Metallica, Hard Wired...to Self-Destruct

    Comic Series: Robert Kirkman's Invincible

Board/Card Game: The Game of Life

UHF -I don't need it, it is on a permanent loop in my brain. Arrow
    "Don'tchoo guys like Bonanza?!"

and Metallica... the Black Album is on my short list. I hear the intro to Enter Sandman and I'm ready to rumble. (even though Of Wolf and Man is my favorite)

I knew I liked you Reed.

I think I need to give UHF another try. Gave it a shot when I was in High School and didn't get it.

I hate having to pick just one of everything, but I guess that's the idea of the game...
So, right this moment my choices would be:

    Video game: Asphalt 8

Movie: The Matrix, haven't watched that in a while!

TV series: Doctor Who - won't need anything else then!

Fiction book: Girlfriend in a Coma by Douglas Coupland. Don't know why, I just cycle back round to it every so often.

Music album: The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society

    Comic series: Johnny Red

    Board game: Star Wars Risk

    Bonus: a Mini Moke

TOR is a really good game; I've been playing it since right after launch.  Do you happen to be on the Jedi Covenant server?  If so, look me up; my main character is Belgariette.

And UHF...man, it's been a long time since I've seen that! Loved it in HS/college. I need to show that one to my kids!

    So, my answers are:

Video game: Half-life 2 because of the game itself + all the mods come with it

Movie: it's gotta be Star Wars.

    TV series: The Wonder Years

Fiction book: The Belgariad by David Eddings

Music album: 5150 by Van Halen

Comic series: Invincible is a good choice, but I have to say The Walking Dead

Board game: Imperial Assault (again because of all the add-ons that you can do for it)

Dude, that's a GREAT pick! I'm not a fan, but I'd consider it for sheer quantity alone!

I am not really sure which server I'm active on.
All I know is they have a 250% xp bonus thing going on, so I'm trying to get as many character classes started (and given a head start) as I can until it ends.
So far, I like the Bounty Hunter for his dialog choices, the Sniper for his mob control, and the Commando because he has a really big gun.

and with 33 seasons, it would keep you entertained for a long time.
