Well, it's almost Halloween, so we should probably talk about scary entertainment, right?

I'm curious about what kinds of favorites are among us.

I never got into horror novels, so I can't speak to that.

My scary movies of choice are always monster flicks like The Thing, Jeepers Creepers and Alien.

I don't really play scary video games for fun. Dead Space is easily the scariest game I've played (See video below) but Dead Island is just tame enough that I can play it in short bursts every few months before I get too stressed out to continue. Bioshock would be right in the sweet spot of "scary/intense yet bearable". They even wear masks in that game! Perfect for Halloween!

Alright, I've got thumbnails to make...

Back before I had kids I loved scary movies. I'm not much for gore, but here's my short list of favorite scary films:
Night of the Living Dead (original)
    In the Mouth of Madness
    Wes Craven's New Nightmare
    Cabin in the Woods

For years the wife and I made it a Halloween tradition to watch the good Halloween movies back to back, 1, 2, 4, 5, and H20.

Back in our college days we loved visiting Haunted Houses. Nowadays its the local corn maze.

Honestly I don't get scared easily so I'm not a fan of horror but if I had to pick one I would say theme park attractions.

Dude, yes! That movie was jacked up Lovecraftian! I need to see that again!

As for haunted houses, I will never forget when my dad took me to one in 7th grade. It was high production value and expensive, took customers down a fake elevator into a mining facility on mars. Your tour guide gets grabbed by a mutated human and ripped open in front of you and you have to make your way through the mine to get out. Entirely sci-fi horror themed. Freaked the crap out of me but it was the simulated reality aspect I loved the most.

These days, haunted houses are a bit too stressful for me to really enjoy (what if, just WHAT IF the actor forgot to take the chain off that poorly lit chainsaw?). What i really wish is if I could just walk through them and look at everything without being jumped at.
