lol. There are a couple of things that have been inspired by my experiences.
* Raising an autistic son. Autism is such a varied and individual thing. The character is kinda built using my son as a template in that regard. Not saying he will always be a carbon copy, butin terms of the way the autism affects him, and I guess, to a smaller extent, how an older sister deals with it.
* Being made at redundant at work (which in my cases lasted all of two weeks before they called me back!)

and one that is borrowed from my future
* Holidaying on a cruise ship.

Interesting that you mentioned The Love Boat.
I have jokingly thought of the story as "Star Trek meets Battlestar Galactica meets The Love Boat", but decided not to market it that way, as it might not attract the correct audience (people may assume it is a romance).

It's a cruise ship so my 40-something-year-old brain immediately made the connection.
