    Watching DC Nation's Young Justice this morning, and I got to thinking;

    Which superhero or villan (universe not-withstanding) has the;

    1) Coolest looking costume?
    2) Most practical costume?
    3) Stupidest costume?
    4) Most impractical costume?

    My votes are:

    1) Nightwing
    2) Superboy (Young Justice cartoon)
    3) ???
    4) ???

    Practical costumes are hugely dependent on the power set of the hero and the situations they find themselves in. I've always thought the milennial Nightwing costume was hugely practical. It had armor, flexibility, stealth, gear compartments - all stuff Nightwing needs. On the other hand, Superman and Green Lantern would just have all that stuff get in the way; their skintight suits give them maximum flexibility while their power set provides the rest of their needs.

    Coolest costume is tough. There are many whose designs appeal to me.

    Stupidest costume is hands-down Hawkeye's purple scale mail. ::shudder::

    The most impractical costume. Well, most supers sport a skintight leotard without armor, brightly colored, with no place to store gear. For most heroes, this is hugely impractical. Others sport giant capes and flanges, big shoulder pads, ornate headgear, and other outlandish features. And let's not forget that female heroes are traditionally clad in thongs and spike heels no matter the weather or terrain.

    Hmmm, I'm having a hard time thinking through all the heroes right now, but to answer #4: The most impractical costume is hands-down Wonder Women, with Powergirl (original DCU) as a close second.

    Focusing on Wonder Woman, her low-cut halter gives her enemies a perfect "handle" to grab onto and punch her in the face. In addition to that, the strapless design is not helpful for flying because the wind-resistance would cause her some severe slow-down from turbulence, as well as frequent wardrobe malfunctions. The lesson of the story? Bare cleavage and bare shoulders are neither helpful for flying, nor fighting.
