Anyone else ready for Christmas?

I think what I'm really feeling ready for is just another vacation. And memories of past Christmases involve not working, eating good food, hanging out with family and sleeping in.
Either way, I'm already looking forward to the bustle of activity followed by the dead calm that lasts about a week.

That reminds me! I have to pick out my annual Christmas album purchase and order it soon!

Plus, then you'd bypass Thanksgiving, and I don't want to miss the one time a year I get turkey.

I usually start thinking about Christmas around 3:00 PM on Christmas Eve (which is when our office closes for the year) That's when I start my Christmas shopping. (Of course my wife is doing some earlier than that).

I don't look forward to the insane business that December inevitably brings (nor the discomfort of the summer heat), but I do enjoy the break. Office doesn't open until after New year, and I'll often take additional leave in January. Takes me a couple of days after Christmas to actually calm down and relax after it all though.

We don't do thanksgiving, but we traditionally eat turkey for lunch on Christmas day (due to our British roots), although many now have non-traditional meals like cold seafood or BBQ. What do you eat on Christmas day in America?

If by ready for Christmas you mean writing my New Years resolutions then Yes I am

Turkey is one of the traditional Christmas dishes, but my wife... and her strange family... have ham.
Not that I don't love ham, it is probably my favorite meat, but you only get turkey so often-I say take advantage of it.

On most years, in my area, we are just getting into the really cold part of the year, with January and February being the absolute worst. Maybe we should do a house swap for Christmas break, what do you say?

Are you kidding? We call the day after Thanksgiving "Opening Ceremonies" and get all of our Christmas decorations up in a single day! Thanksgiving is the kickoff to Christmas for us! No way we're skipping that!

Last Christmas my family had dinner at Buca di Beppo so if your wife and her family is strange for having ham what does having Italian make my family?

We don't do Halloween either, though the shops keep trying to push it (in order to sell more chocoloates) but Aussies generally resist because it's not part of our culture.
Personally, if we were gonna import an American holiday I'd much rather Thanksgiving. I think we would all do well do keep thankfulness foremost in our minds.

You could import Canadian Thanksgiving. I think it's a little less about a specific event and more about general thankfulness. You'd just have to celebrate it in October.

Our traditional Christmas dinner is Lasagna and seven-layer salad. Woohoo! I can almost taste it now!
