Agents of SHIELD premiere

Did anyone see this? What did you think? I for one loved it.

It made me think about the first time I encountered SHIELD and Nick Fury. It was the mid-to-late 1970's. Nick Fury was trying to recruit a scientist. This scientist was kidnapped by HYDRA and taken to their secret base underneath Shea Stadium in New York. Fury and SHIELD go in and bust the scientist out, leaving huge smoking craters in the turf of Shea Stadium. Once outside, Fury asks the scientist if he's ready to join SHIELD. The scientist surveys the ruined stadium and says something to the effect of "Ah. No."

I watched it, but you know I wasn't as good as I was hoping for. I just got the impression they were trying too hard or something, I don't know. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped for. Then again I watched it with my kids. They've seen all the related movies but were totally lost. Must have asked a question every 10 minutes during it!!! Will catch it next week, but without them!

It was a good starting point, it introduced us to the characters we have to follow and tied into the Avengers nicely, but I do have to nitpick the times when it was trying to be artsy, but it was still a good story.

I like the included "joke" that J. August Richards was given, "It's an origin story." They built in a disclaimer that it's a starting point.

Overall, I liked it. It was a strong pilot -- especially considering it was a one hour pilot, which meant they introduced a six person cast, two guest stars, a villain of the episode, and some of the concepts the show will be dealing with in about 42 minutes.

That's what a pilot does. I've seen some good ones; I've seen some bad ones. Lost is the high point to me. This was no Lost. Breaking Bad is way up there, too. This was no Breaking Bad.

But it was one of the stronger pilots I've seen. A pilot is all about the promise -- and this one makes a good promise. It's the following episodes where you find out if it delivered on the promise.

So, we'll see!
