Your Retro Game Consoles Empty Your Retro Game Consoles

    Post  Paeter May 6th 2014, 4:13 pm

Would anyone be interested in having a "Retro Game Week" sometimes this summer? I don't know what that would entail necessarily, but I thought there might be something fun there we could do together. Maybe something comparing high scores of a common game? Or maybe everyone that wants to could commit to logging at least an hour playing an old game of theirs and then coming on here and reminding us all why they still kept that game (or re-acquired it) after all these years.

Maybe if anyone is interested we could start by posting the retro consoles we still own, beginning with the Xbox/PS2 generation and going backward.

    For me that's:

    PS2
    PS1(through PS2 compatibility)
    SNES
    NES
    Atari 2600

PCs are naturally part of retro gaming, too. But if you're reading this I'm assuming you have one.

    Ooohh. I like this idea.

    I own games for:

    PS2
    PS1
    Game Cube
    N64
    NES

All still connected to my tv. With a bit of digging I can unearth a trove that includes the SNES and Atari Jaguar.

    Tempest 2000!!!!

PS2 is retro now? Sheeesh, I'm so old...

I've never been into consoles, just got a PS1 here, but can offer an Amiga 1200 and a Sinclair Spectrum +2 for retro computing goodness.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I included it so the youngin's can feel like they've lived a little bit of life. But honestly it barely feels retro to me.

Haha...I guess I'm one of those youngin's. My retro games are for the PS1 and PS2. I also have a PSP, but have barely played it.

PS2 seems to be almost a common denominator, but not quite. How about we put a week on our calendar during which we all commit to playing one hour of an old favorite(any system) and then reporting back here soon after saying 1. why we used to love it. 2. Why we still love it. OR 3. why its still/again in our collection.

Sound good? An hour too much? Maybe just 30 minutes?

Man, retro consols? I collect that stuff!

Right now, hooked up to my TV at this very moment is...:

    An NES
    A SNES
    An N64
    A Gamecube
    A Sega Genesis
    A Sega DreamCast (No Saturn)
    An Xbox
    An Xbox360
    A PS1
    A PS2
    A PS3
And the Computer I'm using now.

I also have a bunch of the old Handhelds around here somewhere.

As for Playing them, every now and again when the mood strikes me. Favourite system would have to be the SNES for the last Great Hurrah of the 2D games. Played a bit of Super Metroid recently and it's still great fun.

Okay, then! Anyone want to suggest a few weeks in the summer we can choose from? (Or just a week to avoid?)
