More Xbox One Reversals

I just learned that, despite previous statements by Microsoft to the contrary:

1. A headset will be included with Xbox One (previously they insisted it wasn't needed due to advanced Kinect capabilities
2. Kinect will not be required in order to us the console.

PS4 pre-orders are also leading Xbox One by 4:1

I smell a cheaper, non-kinect version of Xbox One coming...

Why not make Xbox 1 able to play both Xbox and 360 games and that might help.

I know I'll eventually get both a PS4 and a Xbox1 but not at launch I'll get themcloser to when some games I want to pla come out for it.

Commentators made the observation that this is likely a money-saving tactic, as backwards compatibility adds significant expense and is only heavily useful during the first 4th to 3rd of a console's lifespan. You might notice that even though Sony has plans to make PS2 and PS1 GAMES playable on PS4, they didn't say "discs". Their plan is to make earlier generation titles available via streaming service. (Cool idea, but it probably means repurchasing games I already own.)
