    Logan Trailer Empty Logan Trailer

    Post  Paeter October 20th 2016, 9:48 am

This almost made me tear up. If the movie captures the sense of quiet drama here (but alternates that with awesome action, of course) it will be such a bittersweet send off for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, leaving me wanting more. Really great looking stuff.

What do you guys think? Too serious?

    Too serious?
Well written Wolverine is a Wolverine who has pain upon pain heaped upon him (check out his love life, for instance) and just wont die (despite his wishes).

Serious is something I hope for in this movie. Xmen Origins: Wolverine ... the further from that they get the better. ("The love of my life just died horribly, but, hey-nice bike")

I am really hoping this is more along the lines of Book of Eli, Children of Men, or something like that which happens to be set in the XMen universe, rather than an XMen movie with some of those elements.

Interesting to see a Wolverine movie with Xavier as a supporting character, though I wonder how it came about that all fo the mutants are gone. Maybe something from Apocalypse, which I haven't watched yet.

One thing I've wondered about is what happened with Logan and the woman from the "Wolverine" movie--actually, both of them, the Japanese businessman's daughter and her adopted sister with the strange mutant power, because the movie appeared to end with him still traveling around but without the one girl who had taken on the sidekick role, and "Days of Futures Past" makes no mention at all of them.

Yeah, it might work if it can keep that kind of ground down, bittersweet (but mostly bitter) feel to it.

Cool. I just have trouble predicting what audiences want in terms of superhero tone these days, given the massive embrace of the less serious Marvel movies and the mixed reactions to the grim tone of the first two DC flicks. I'm ready to expect people to want a Wolverine that gets over his issues, smiles often and cracks jokes a lot during combat. For my part, I'm glad this isn't that!

That's the thing, though: I don't want a superhero movie.
I want a movie with a superhero in it.
Same with Rogue One: I don't want a Star Wars movie, I want a movie set in the Star Wars universe.

Explosions and berserker rages wont make for a good movie (even if they are popcorn fun).
One liners and witty banter add to a movie, they don't make it. (well, rarely)

Yeah, the vibe I get from this trailer is that it's not a superhero movie, it's a different genre altogether.

Actually, I really hope this movie DOES feel very different from what we've come to expect from superhero movies. But I ALSO want it to be seen and thought of as a superhero movie, or what "superhero movie" can mean going forward.

My fear is that "superhero movie" is becoming too narrowly defined in people's minds, especially with how many Marvel movies have been coming out with nearly identical tones. Superhero comics can be SO diverse in tone, setting, genre and concepts, and I want to see that in superhero movies, too!

I don't want Hollywood to get the message that "people are tired of superhero movies" when in fact they are just getting tired of certain TYPES of superhero movies.

The superhero movie is dead. Long live the superhero movie!

I concur with that as well.
Superhero is a genre, somewhat like science fiction, that can actually be blended with almost any other genre.
Marvel have done this a bit, for example, Ant Man was a heist movie. Captain America was a period war movie.

But there is scope for so much more, and yes, the critics (for whatever they're worth in this day and age) need to accept a broader range of tones in superhero films.

If done right, this could be the best superhero movie of all time.

The trailer is so good I'm afraid it will be bad!

Ditto on that. Visually and emotionally grounded, full-on superhero drama. (With some cool action of course) Would love to see that made.

Final Logan trailer is out! Whoa!

I'm cautiously optimistic about this film. Looks to be the best in the franchise.

Totally agree this could be the best in the franchise, especially if you mean Wolverine. But it may also be (due to my tastes) the X-universe movie I enjoy the most. Hope SOOOOO much that this does well and gives audiences a taste for serious, dramatic superhero stuff. Not saying DC has done everything right, but would love for them to feel like they can retain their aim at seriousness. C'mon Logan! You can do it!

(There's also an extended redband trailer where Patrick Stewart has a great line at the end, although caution, he drops an F-bomb, if you're sensitive to language.)

The line at the end of the red band trailer is great!

Let's speculate for a moment. Is there a possible world in which the Logan movie does so amazingly well in theaters that Hugh Jackman does another post-apocalyptic Logan movie after this one?

I hope not. It would be better to go out with a bang and leave audiences with a fantastic experience rather than risk a(nother) stinker.

I agree! And yet this seems like such a bold, different take on what an X-Universe movie can be (I don't quite count Deadpool, since the Colossus continuity was wacked) that I can see it either quietly making it's money or being hugely successful. So I'm wondering if crazy success could lure Jackman and company back for one more, for good or ill.
